All About Cellfina: Procedure to Results

Cellulite doesn’t care if you diet, exercise, and live a healthy lifestyle. No matter who you are, what your body type or your family history, cellulite can appear on your body. Cellulite is a condition that affects ninety percent of women and ten percent of men. Until recently, your options were limited to minimally effective non-invasive procedures like deep tissue massage, creams, and serums or surgical procedures like liposuction. These procedures range from ineffective to temporary. Finally, there is an FDA-approved treatment that shows a 97% satisfaction rate after three years – the Cellfina procedure.

Imagine your skin is a mattress. The mattress top is the surface of your skin. The mattress is puckered where the springs are attached underneath. Cellulite creates the same puckering at the surface of your skin. Instead of mattress springs, fibrous bands of tissue are attached to the surface of your skin and the fat cells around it are the cushioning of the mattress. With the Cellfina procedure, these tough fibrous bands are cut to allow the skin to even out at the surface. The result is smooth skin and a reduction of cellulite.

Cellfina Procedure Day:

Cellfina is the only minimally invasive treatment for cellulite that is approved by the FDA. It can be completed in an office visit without the use of general anesthesia. First Dr. Teotia will mark the cellulite dimples on your skin with a marker. Then she will use a local numbing agent and will insert a small needle-sized device into the skin to perform a subcision, a cutting of the bands beneath the skin’s surface. Once these bands are cut like a rubber band, the skin at the surface will bounce back. The procedure can be performed in one 45-90 minute treatment, depending on the size of the affected area and the number of dimples treated.

Post-Care:

Patients are able to drive themselves home afterwards. Most reported minimal side effects such as soreness, tenderness, and bruising typically last for one to three days post-procedure. Most patients required little to no down time from work due to pain. Over ninety percent of patients had no bruising after four weeks.  You will want to take it easy for about twenty-four hours after the procedure and it will help with your skin recovery to wear compression clothing on the affected area. Keep post-operative bandages on the area for one full day and use compresses for two weeks. At the two-week mark, you will have a follow-up appointment to check on your progress.

Results:

Now on to the best part! Results are staggeringly positive. In an FDA-cleared pivotal study, patients reported eighty-five percent satisfaction after three months. After a year, the satisfaction rate jumps to ninety-four percent and at two years it clears ninety-six percent. That makes Cellfina a nearly permanent cellulite solution. Two years after treatment, one hundred percent of patients showed improvement on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale. While the testing on Cellfina is still ongoing, results are still evident three years after the procedure. It looks promising that Cellfina continues to be effective four and five years afterwards and beyond.
