What Can Body Lifting Procedures Do for You?

No matter how diligently you work out or diet, skin that has stretched due to weight gain or that has lost elasticity during the aging process cannot snap back to a tight, youthful contour. The goal of an arm, thigh, or back lift is to remove this lax, sagging skin and tighten the remaining skin to create a firmer and younger appearance. Body lifting surgeries also prevent issues like painful rashes and uncomfortable chafing that can be a side effect of lax skin.

In performing lifting procedures, Dr. Teotia can reduce your excess skin and reshape common problem areas like your thighs, back, and upper arms.

What Happens During an Arm, Thigh, or Back Lift?

Before performing lifting surgery, Dr. Teotia will ensure your anesthesia has taken effect and that you are comfortable. She will then make the necessary incisions to remove unwanted skin in the target area and close the incisions with sutures.

After a brief stay in the recovery area, you will be sent home after surgery to rest. You will need to have a trusted friend or family member available to drive you home, since you will still be drowsy from the anesthesia.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Dallas Arm, Thigh, or Back Lift?

The best candidates for any lifting procedure will have loose, sagging skin that they want to tighten. If stubborn fat deposits in these areas are also a concern, Dr. Teotia may recommend adding liposuction to your arm, thigh, or back lift.

In addition to having undesirable skin laxity on your upper arms, thighs, or back, you should also:

  • Be in general good health, with no underlying risk factors that might lead to surgical complications
  • Be a nonsmoker or be willing to quit smoking for at least several months before your surgery and while you are healing
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Understand the risks involved

What Is Recovery Like After Lifting Procedures?

You will notice an immediate improvement following your arm, thigh, or back lift surgery. However, you will not see your ultimate results until the initial swelling and bruising have resolved. While you recover, you will need to wear compression garments to support your new contours and minimize swelling.

Dr. Teotia will provide you with specific directions on what to do during your healing period, including when to return for follow-up appointments. While light movement, such as walking, promotes healthy circulation during the recovery phase, please do not resume more intense workouts until Dr. Teotia gives you clearance to do so.

You may feel well enough to return to work after a week or two. However, wait until Dr. Teotia gives you clearance to return to a strenuous job that requires heavy lifting, stretching, or bending. You can manage pain with medication, and you may want to have someone help you around the house while you heal.

Dallas Arm, Thigh, and Back Lifts FAQS

Dr. Teotia always uses her surgical skill to make small, inconspicuous incisions that heal as discreetly as possible, but it is essential to note that lifting procedures will leave you with some scars. Most patients report that their results are worth it. Be sure to discuss any concerns with Dr. Teotia during your consultation. She can give you advice for minimizing scarring, such as applying topical ointments and avoiding excessive sun exposure. Time will also help scars fade and flatten.

Body lifting surgeries only address loose, sagging skin, not fat. If you are also concerned about undesirable fat pockets on your arms, thighs, or back, you may wish to add liposuction to your lifting surgery. When meeting with Dr. Teotia, she can help you determine whether a combination approach would be best.

If you are in good overall health and are at or near your goal weight, you can consider getting body contouring six months to a year after significant weight loss. During your consultation with Dr. Teotia, she will ask you questions about your health history to determine whether you have any conditions that may adversely impact your results, recovery time, or cause complications such as bleeding or infection.

Significant weight fluctuations can dramatically affect the results of a body lift. For example, weight loss can lead to more excess skin, and weight gain can erase your new contours.

Plastic surgery is an elective procedure, so most insurance companies will not cover the cost. That said, it is smart to check with your provider and ask what they are authorized to pay.

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow, by removing loose skin and fatty tissue. An arm lift procedure typically results in a more toned and proportionate appearance of the entire upper arm, which enhances both the physical appearance and self-confidence of the patient.

A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from either the inner or outer thighs to improve their shape and contour. This surgery is often sought after significant weight loss or aging and can help restore a more youthful and firmer appearance to the thighs.

A back lift is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower back, addressing issues like back rolls or sagging skin. This surgery can significantly enhance the contour of the back and waist area, leading to a more toned and smooth appearance.
