Dr. Teotia listens to her patients and tailors her cosmetic improvements to meet their needs. She strives to give each patient the look they want, rather than taking a general approach to plastic surgery.

Skill and expertise

Dr. Teotia uses some of the most advanced techniques in her practice. Her state-of-the-art approach gives long lasting results while reducing the risk of infection and speeding recovery.

Benefits of a Breast Reduction

When performing breast reduction surgery, Dr. Teotia will use her skills to remove excess breast tissue, glandular fat, and sagging, stretched-out skin. The breast reduction procedure can also reduce the size of your areolas, which often become enlarged in women with bigger breasts.

For men who also have excessive breast tissue – a condition known as gynecomastia – breast reduction surgery can correct this problem and restore a more masculine chest contour.

The goal of a breast reduction is to give you smaller, lighter, and firmer breasts and help create a more aesthetically pleasing profile by making flattened or elongated breasts perkier.

While many of Dr. Teotia’s patients choose breast reduction to alleviate physical complaints, a wide range of cosmetic and emotional benefits also come into play.

  • Your breasts will look more youthful.
  • It will be easier to find flattering bras that fit comfortably without chafing or digging in.
  • With breasts that better suit your proportions, your overall figure will become more balanced and attractive.
  • Swimsuits and other form-fitting clothes will flatter your figure, boosting your confidence and self-esteem no matter what activities you are doing.
  • You will no longer feel self-conscious or embarrassed about your breast size or shape.

What Is Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce the size of the breasts by removing excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin. The procedure also reshapes the breasts to give them a firm, rounded, and uplifted profile. For men who also have excessive breast tissue, a condition known as gynecomastia, breast reduction surgery can also correct this problem and restore a more masculine chest.

Why Might I Consider a Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction can bring both physical and emotional benefits. Reducing the size and weight of overly large breasts can:
  • relieve chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • clear up skin irritation below the breasts
  • eliminate painful indentations from the pressure of bra straps
  • open you up to more, and better-fitting, clothing options
  • enable you to become more physically active
  • give you a more positive self-image and greater self-confidence

Patient Stories

I was uncomfortable with my [breast] size but extremely scared of the surgery. I had met with other doctors, but ultimately chose Dr. Teotia because she made me feel comfortable and relaxed and she gave me the reassurance that I needed. The surgery went wonderfully and I had a quick recovery, with my scars healing beautifully. Dr. Teotia truly cared about me and how I was doing, continually checking up on me post-surgery. A lot of doctors say you don’t have to stay the night in the hospital, but I highly recommend it, especially if you are getting a reduction. Now, I am living without the pain and confident in my body all thanks to Dr. Teotia.

What Happens During Breast Reduction Surgery?

Dr. Teotia performs breast-reduction surgeries under general anesthesia. Depending on your unique procedure plan, Dr. Teotia will choose from four incision options:

Through these incisions, Dr. Teotia will excise skin and fat inside your breasts and may also reposition and resize your nipple-areola complex. If necessary, she can also use liposuction to remove additional fat. Then, Dr. Teotia and her team will close the incisions with sutures, adhesive, or surgical tape to minimize any visible scarring.

Depending on the procedure’s extent, breast reduction surgery takes from two to three hours. Once you wake up from sedation, you can usually go home, though some patients elect to stay overnight at the hospital. You will need a friend or family member to drive you home and someone to stay with you overnight.

What to Expect When Recovering from Breast Reduction

In the first few days after your breast reduction, you can expect to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Dr. Teotia will prescribe pain medication as needed and will provide you with supportive garments or a specially fitted surgical bra.

You should plan for a full week of downtime after the procedure. You’ll want to arrange for help around your home during this time, especially with lifting anything heavier than five pounds and reaching for things above your head. You also should not drive while you are taking pain medication.

Unless your job involves strenuous activity, repetitive motion, or lifting heavy loads, you should feel well enough to return to work in one to two weeks. You can also resume low-impact exercise, such as walking, at this point. By six weeks, you can go back to your regular activity level.

Dr. Teotia will provide detailed instructions for your recovery and happily answer any questions you may have along the way. After all, when you partner with Dr. Teotia, you get a surgeon who will stick with you throughout the entire process.

How Long Will Breast Reduction Results Last?

Breast reduction can be one of the most gratifying cosmetic procedures for women who have been suffering with physical and emotional distress due to having overly large breasts. Women come to us complaining that their oversized breasts make them feel less attractive, or that they wish physical activities such as taking a cardio class or playing with their kids weren’t so uncomfortable. Women who have had the procedure feel freer to wear clothing styles they have always wished they could look good in or try new physical activities they once avoided.

After breast reduction, you can expect to enjoy smaller, lighter breasts for many years, provided you keep your body weight relatively consistent and do not have any more children. If you plan to become pregnant, ask Dr. Teotia how the resulting hormonal and weight fluctuations can affect your breasts’ shape and size.

Dallas Breast Reduction FAQs

You will notice an immediate improvement in your breasts’ shape and size after your breast reduction. However, it will take a few weeks for swelling to go down and a few months for the tissue to settle into its new position. It will also take several months for your scars to mature. Your results will last for years, and you can extend them by maintaining a steady weight and wearing well-fitted bras.

The best candidates for breast-reduction surgery are healthy, non-smokers who are close to their ideal weight. If you smoke, you’ll need to quit for a duration before and after your surgery. Beyond those criterias, Dr. Teotia can advise you whether the procedure will benefit you when you meet with her for a consultation.

Having surgery on your breasts can impact your ability to nurse a baby. If you are worried about this, be sure to ask Dr. Teotia during your consultation.

In some cases, health insurance providers deem breast reduction surgery to be medically necessary. Dr. Teotia’s staff will review your insurance plan with you and help you determine if you could be an insurance candidate.

Dr. Teotia will choose one of four incision techniques, depending on your personalized surgical plan. In all cases, she takes care to make the incisions in areas where she can conceal them, such as the creases under your breasts or the natural color change of the areolas. You can also minimize your chances of post-surgical scarring by keeping the incisions clean and covered while they heal.

We ask that you refrain from heavy lifting or strenuous activities for at least two weeks after breast surgery. However, during your recovery period, we encourage light walking to stimulate your circulation and speed the healing process. By the six-week mark, you should be fully back to your regular routine.

Several variables influence your procedure’s price. After learning about your goals during your consultation, Dr. Teotia can give you an accurate cost estimate.

Many women opt to get a lift and reduction simultaneously. Dr. Teotia and her team will tailor your surgery to give you the results you expect and deserve.
