What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are non-surgical skin treatments that improve the skin’s tone and texture by removing the outer layer. Dr. Teotia’s dedicated staff can perform superficial chemical peels for skin exfoliation or administer more aggressive peels that penetrate into the deeper layer of the skin for more dramatic results.

Chemical Peel Benefits

There are many advantages to having a chemical peel. They not only reveal a smoother, brighter, and more refined complexion, but they also enhance the overall skin appearance and feel.

Other benefits include:

  • Promotes collagen regeneration and healthy skin cell growth
  • Improves skin clarity, texture, and tone
  • Reduces discoloration and sun-damage
  • Smooths skin texture by diminishing wrinkles and fine lines
  • Helps reduce acne breakouts
  • Improves skin hydration
  • Increases the effectiveness of skincare products used at home

For long-term benefits, we recommend three or more chemical peel sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.

Different Types of Chemical Peels

There are different types of chemical peels that allow Dr. Teotia’s team to treat your particular skin condition. We will decide on the right chemical peel for you based on your aesthetic goals, skin type, downtime availability, and budget. While some peels are aggressive, others are more gentle.

Often called a “lunchtime peel,” these peels are the mildest option. As the name implies, a superficial peel affects only the outer most layer of skin. This chemical peel uses a gentle solution suitable for all skin types. It requires no downtime and minimal recovery.

These deeper peels utilize retinol or acids at varying strength to achieve deeper penetration. They are great for addressing sun-damaged skin or other similar cosmetic concerns. Downtime is minimal, and you will be back to normal a few days after the session.

These peels help the most severe skin concerns. Deep peels penetrate the skin to remove damaged cells. Deep peels require the lengthiest recovery time, but also provide the most lasting results.

Chemical Peel Procedure

During your treatment session, we start by cleansing your skin before applying the chemical solution. Next, we massage the solution onto your face and let it sit for the recommended time. We then apply a neutralizing agent to stop any further penetration. Afterwards, we will apply sunscreen to protect you from the sun once you leave the office.

Chemical Peel Recovery in Dallas

We will provide detailed instructions on how to properly care for your skin after the peel.

The following is what you can generally expect after the different types of chemical peels:

For Light Chemical Peel Procedure

Redness, a tight sensation and very mild flaking may occur after your treatment. However, after applying a suitable sunscreen, you can return to your normal activities after leaving our clinic.

For Medium Chemical Peel Procedure

Stinging, redness, and skin flaking are common symptoms that follow a medium peel. These side-effects are similar to a sunburn, and patients should avoid direct sunlight. We recommend medical-grade sunblock to wear at all times after your treatment.

For Deep Chemical Peel Procedure

Teotia prides herself on delivering an outcome that never looks overdone. During your personalized consultation, she will plan your procedure with you to produce results that are in harmony with the rest of your body.

The downtime for this peel will be approximately two weeks after treatment, although a deep chemical peel will produce longer-lasting results.
