Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers in Dallas, TX, with Dr. Stephanie Teotia

For women and men, the signs of facial aging appear with the emergence of wrinkles, folds, and fine lines. This problem is often due to the loss of facial volume. Although there are surgical solutions, including facelift and eyelid surgery, dermal fillers provide a temporary correction for patients who may not be ready for a long recovery and downtime.

Fillers require little or no downtime, provide results quickly, and can last for months to years. Dr. Stephanie Teotia, a Dallas based plastic surgeon, understands that many of her patients live hectic lives that are difficult to balance. The prospect of having a surgical procedure does not work for all. Dr. Teotia will work closely with you to develop the plan that best suits your needs.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers, also known as facial fillers, are aesthetic treatments approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which help create a refreshed facial appearance by treating wrinkles, lines, and folds. The filler is injected using fine needles to plump up and support the skin.

What Areas do Dermal Fillers Treat?

Dermal fillers are used to address one or more of the following on the face:

  • Increase hydration to underlying skin tissue
  • Smooth fine lines
  • Soften moderate lines around your mouth, the chin area, or from your nose to the corners of your mouth.
  • Remodel your chin and cheeks with more definition
  • Fill in your tear troughs
  • Minimize superficial or acne scarring
  • Define or enhance lips
  • Reestablish facial volume

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephanie Teotia, offers in-office dermal filler treatments at her comfortable, stress-free clinic in Oak Lawn, Dallas. The facial fillers she provides include:

Patients who lack cheek volume probably have diminished levels of hyaluronic acid. This natural substance occurs between the cells of your body and provides your skin with structure and support. Voluma XC is different from other dermal fillers in that it is explicitly designed to make the cheek area look fuller. This filler is currently the only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler that instantly resolves hollow and sunken cheeks. It has also been approved to augment the chin. After a quick and convenient treatment, your Voluma XC results can last up to two years.

Vollure is another hyaluronic acid (HA) filler from the Juvéderm family of products. It is best used to alleviate moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Vollure’s most popular application is to reduce “parenthesis lines” around the nose and mouth. It can also be injected into other facial areas as recommended by Dr. Teotia. Vollure contains Vycross crosslinking technology, which allows for a higher concentration of HA molecules. This innovation increases filler durability and even distribution. For many patients, Vollure can last up to 18 months.

Volbella is the latest FDA-approved injectable added to the Juvéderm family of dermal fillers. This non-surgical lip augmentation option is unique in that it is the first lip filler designed to plump the lips and diminish the appearance of perioral lines around the mouth. Although it contains a different concentration than Vollure, Volbella also contains Vycross crosslinking technology. Volbella’s effects can be seen up to 12 months.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC is a colorless, HA injectable gel that contains a small amount of local anesthetic (lidocaine). Juvederm Ultra Plus XC temporarily adds volume to areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur. It effectively reduces these concerns, particularly around the mouth and nose. Most patients need only one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. Ultra Plus XC’s results often last up to a full year.

Sculptra activates the skin’s natural regenerative process. It helps replenish lost collagen, a critical protein that supports skin tissue and cells. This FDA-approved injectable also gradually and subtly restores facial volume. Sculptra is made with a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid. Through a series of injection treatments, this acid is naturally absorbed by the body to help build lost collagen. Depending on how much collagen is lost, the number of sessions and injections varies from patient to patient. A good baseline is three injection sessions over several months.

Revanesse Versa can be used to treat moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. Versa is an adaptable product that can be injected into multiple facial areas. With over three million syringes used globally since 2012, the Versa formula has proven to be an effective and trusted product. This extensive usage is a testament to its effectiveness, safety, and satisfactory results. Versa typically lasts up to 12 months

The Dermal Filler Injection Process

Once you and Dr. Teotia choose which filler is best suited for your cosmetic concerns, you are ready for your treatment regimen. First, we will thoroughly clean the target area. We may then employ a topical anesthetic cream to maximize your comfort during the process. Next, Dr. Teotia will strategically inject the facial filler precisely into the designated areas.

After injections, you may experience slight swelling or bruising. Applying a cold compress will help with any swelling or discomfort. With most of the injection treatments, you can return to your daily routine after leaving the office. Many patients schedule their procedures during their lunch break from work.

Dermal Filler FAQs

Different fillers deliver different outcomes. During your consultation with Dr. Teotia, she will discuss a personalized treatment regimen that will be customized for you.

Both treatments involve injections. The botulinum toxin in Botox® relaxes muscle movement that results in wrinkles, while dermal fillers add volume to smooth lines.

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved quickly using the enzyme hyaluronidase. This product disperses hyaluronic acid to accelerate the natural breakdown process. Thus, it effectively flushes the dermal filler from the treatment site.
