What is a Tip Rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty changes the appearance of your nose. Dr. Teotia operates on noses to specifically address your cosmetic concerns. A tip rhinoplasty specifically focuses on the end of the nose or the nasal tip. Is the tip of your nose too boxy? She will reshape it to give it a refined contour. Is it too bulbous, or does it point in the wrong direction? All of these concerns can be addressed surgically.

How Is a Tip Rhinoplasty Performed?

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a comfortable and accredited surgical setting. Dr. Teotia will make a small incision on your columella, which is the strut of tissue between your nostrils. In time, this scar will be well hidden. During surgery, the deep structures of the nasal tip are viewed once the overlying skin has been elevated. Dr. Teotia may add or remove cartilage to the tip or place critical sutures. Other techniques will be employed as needed to give your nose a harmonious look. At the end of the procedure, Dr. Teotia will place a bandage that will remain in place for a week.

The surgery takes from one to two to hours, depending on the extent of the surgical procedure. Once you wake up from sedation, you can go home. You will need a friend or family member to drive you home, and someone to stay with you the first night after surgery.

What to Expect in your Tip Rhinoplasty

In the first few days after surgery, you are likely to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Dr. Teotia will prescribe pain medication as needed. You should plan for a week of downtime after the procedure. Unless your job involves strenuous activity, you should be able to return to work after your sutures are removed one-week post-surgery. After about two weeks, you will be ready to resume light activities and exercise. You should not engage in any activities that might traumatize your nose. By six weeks post-surgery, you can return to your regular activities. Dr. Teotia will provide detailed instructions for your recovery and happily answer any questions you may have along the way.

FAQS: Tip Rhinoplasty with Dr. Teotia

You will see a change in the shape of your nose right away, but it will take a few weeks for the majority of the swelling to go down. A small amount of swelling will remain, and it will take months for the tissue to settle into its new position. It will also take several months for your scar to mature.
The best candidates are healthy, non-smokers who have realistic expectations about their final outcome. Dr. Teotia prefers subtle and natural changes to the nose.
Rhinoplasty is considered cosmetic and will not be covered by insurance.
