How Does Botox Work?

Your muscles contract when you smile, frown, or make other facial expressions. Through this constant muscle movement, your skin becomes laxer, which results in the formation of expression lines and wrinkles.

When Dr. Teotia injects Botox into the underlying muscle of the treatment site, it blocks the nerve impulses from initiating muscle contractions that produce these dynamic wrinkles. The result will leave your skin looking smoother and more relaxed. Botox injections are relatively painless and quick, taking only 10 to 15 minutes. Another excellent benefit is that there is virtually no downtime, making it possible to have the treatment over your lunch break!

Most patients see an improvement with diminished lines and wrinkles within five days, although results vary from patient to patient. The effects of your Botox injection lasts three to six months before you will need any additional treatments.

Who Is a Good Botox Candidate?

If you want to prevent aging, but aren’t quite ready for invasive surgery, Botox may be the best option for you. Botox is also an excellent anti-aging treatment, preventing fine lines and wrinkles from developing further. That’s because it slows down expression imprints or stops them altogether.

Facial concerns Botox can treat include:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet (lines in the corners of your eyes)
  • Forehead creases
  • Droopy brows
  • Neck bands
  • Chin dimples
  • Bunny lines on the nose

Due to the versatility of Botox, it is a useful treatment for most patients who would like to reduce the presence of fine lines and wrinkles. Ideal candidates include:

  • Those who prefer non-surgical treatment to extensive facial plastic surgery
  • Patients who are satisfied with facial restoration with temporary results
  • People with realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcome

Patient Stories

Dr. Teotia and her staff were wonderful. I came in seeking a more youthful appearance. Dr. Teotia helped guide me in how I could achieve my goal with a more natural-looking approach through Juvederm and Botox. I started to notice more crows feet and my eyes and they looked more hallow than they had in the past. I've been extremely happy with the result. I feel more confident in my appearance and recommend anyone to go see Dr. Teotia.
