Top 5 Skin Care Tips For Healthy, Glowing Skin

In Roman mythology, Janus was the god of beginnings and endings, often depicted with one face looking forward and the other looking backward. If you are vowing to change things for the better in 2022, why not start with your skin care routine? Here are a few of our favorite skin care tips.

1. Go Back to Basics

Many people mistakenly assume complex, multi-stage skincare regimens are the most effective. The truth is, simpler is often better when you are looking for ways to achieve optimal skin health. For instance, overdoing it with products like exfoliants and toners can strip your skin’s natural moisture barrier, accelerating the aging process and causing problems like irritation, redness, and breakouts. A simplified skincare routine with products formulated for your skin type will save you time every day. You will also be more likely to stick to a program that involves fewer steps and still gets the job done.

2. Wash Your Face Twice a Day

As soon as you wake up and before going to sleep, cleanse your face with a gentle face wash. Avoid standard bar soap, which can be drying. It might take a little patience to find the best facial cleanser for you, especially if you have combination or breakout-prone skin. Be sure to choose an oil-free, non-comedogenic product. If you wear makeup, remove it thoroughly before your head hits the pillow – no matter how sleepy you are.

3. Moisturize

To keep your skin healthy and supple, apply moisturizer immediately after washing your face and patting it dry. For best results, use smooth, upward strokes, and remember to include your neck. During the day, we recommend using a lightweight moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. Before bedtime, you can apply a slightly richer, heavier cream to deliver continuous hydration overnight. If you are prone to dark circles under your eyes, you may also wish to supplement your nighttime moisturizer with a specially formulated eye cream to combat premature aging in this delicate area.

4. Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is a must for optimal overall health. Avoid sugary, caffeinated beverages, which can leave you dehydrated and make your skin more prone to breakouts. When you wake up, drink a full glass of water to replenish the hydration you lost overnight, and continue to keep H2O on hand throughout the day. For a nutritional bonus, you can also get hydrated by eating water-rich foods like lettuce, melons, and cucumbers.

5. Maintain Your Sleep Hygiene

There is a reason we call it “beauty sleep.” At night, your body’s systems work to repair and recover from the damage done during the day. Create a consistent routine of going to bed and waking up at the same times every day, even on your days off. Invest in good-quality sheets and make your bedroom a calming, tech-free oasis for maximum rest.
